~ #3 What Dreams May Come... R+F Daily Writing Prompt~
It is easy to lose our way in the midst of all the angst, sadness and strife we face at the moment. As I work at my computer today, thinking about all the things I want to do and feeling as if I have no idea where to begin, I am struck by the power of the word "LOSS".
That word holds so much power. The definition is actually quite simple, according to Merriam-Webster: "DESTRUCTION, RUIN; the act of losing possession: DEPRIVATION." It continues, but it all boils down to: "at a loss": "Uncertain how to proceed". Which quite honestly, is how I feel today.
So how do I muscle through and continue to complete my daily tasks? How can I possibly reach out to people to discuss skin care, or writing services or anything with them in the chaos of our current state?
For this I turn to Shakespeare, as the Bard may quite possibly REVERSE my thinking about endings and beginnings. "What dreams may come...?" What will grow out of this time we face? Last month, I drove past a billboard (almost every day) that stated: "What we see as an ending is often actually a beginning". (This is paraphrased, as I am quite sure it was shorter, but the meaning is the important part.)
All doors are open, even if we must (at present) stand six feet apart. We still wake, eat, laugh, cry, pray, love and dream. We need to. These are the gifts that help us fight and survive.
So, I get up. I wash my face and care for myself. I work and write and share my thoughts. For these are "the things of man..."

~ #2 Define and Redefine! R+F Daily Writing Prompt~
As you get started reaching out to others today, Think about what the word Engagement means to you. Define it. Look up the definition and then REDEFINE it in the terms of your life and your dreams/ambitions. How do you want to engage? What are ways of engaging? The possibilities are endless...

Engagement. I think of Engagement as meaning an enthusiastic way of connecting with someone or something on a higher, inspired level. The definition I found in the Cambridge English Dictionary is: "An arrangement to do something or meet someone at a particular time and place; The act of beginning to fight someone, or a period of time in war; The act of promising you intend to marry someone, or the state of having decided to get married."
All of these truly inspire me to create my own - new - R+F visionary definition.
Engagement in terms of my life and goals pursuits is as follows...
I am in Engaging in/to the commitment of my both my art and my business that I love! I am Engaging with the community I know, love, support, connect with; a community I continue to expand and develop by sharing the excitement and opportunity of R+F and all it has to offer! I am Engaging with my writing, my art and collaboration; my sharing of self-reflections, these prompts.
I am Engaging by meeting together with my team, whether virtually or in person; by meeting with potential partners and customers for coffee or cocktails and conversation. I am Engaging with my work by studying, learning and passing along my knowledge and love of my business. I am engaging by hosting writing groups and tequila tastings - to share the both the complexities and experience of these pieces of my life - and the joy they bring me!
I am Engaging by fighting the good fight every day - to work, learn and grow - by accepting "nos" as "not nows" and believing in myself and my goals. I am Engaging with myself by believing in my abilities and self worth.
Most of all I am Engaging in listening. Being there for others and supporting them in this rollercoaster of life. For their journey teaches and Inspires me to look at the world with fresh eyes, new perspectives and find the joy in each moment!
I join my friend Sierra (thank you sparkling girl!) - who so eloquently stated this to me over lunch the other day - 2019 is [my] year of Engagement!
~ #1 Thank You for Inspiring me! R+F Daily writing prompt~
Before focusing on your calls and lists today, take time to write a letter to someone who inspired you to embark on the entrepreneurial path. Think deeply. Though your mentor guided you here, this may be someone unrelated to the business. Someone from your past...
Dear Resor, Friday, February 21st 2019
Years ago, when you were still walking this Earth - and well before I was through grad school, married, then divorced - yes that was more years ago than I care to admit - you gave me a gift that I did not recognize at the time. You pulled me aside and said: "This acting thing kid, it's great. You've got talent. I know you can do it. I know you love it. But what are you going to do for money?" I laughed, both at your delivery and the concept. It actually had not occurred to me. I was still in that it-will-all-just-fall-into-place frame of mind. And though, to this day, I continue to believe that things will and do work out in time, I held your words with me.
I did not have an answer for a long time. During many moments over the years I thought I did. But each of these moments proved to be just that. A fleeting feeling of stability. After all, I am an artist, I follow my heart and lead with my passion. You saw that as both a gift and a curse. A strength and a challenge. You cared enough to point it out to me and ask me the tough question. The realistic question.
It took me over 30 years to truly hear you, but I have. I did. I want to thank you, Resor. For I have found what you knew; as an incredible businessman who not only lived his dream with stability, but spread the joy and enthusiasm of life every day. I have found a business I am passionate about. A team to work with and celebrate. A network of stability. A plan.
I miss you my dear friend. And I thank you. I hear you.
God winks every time I think of you and I belly laugh!
Love
~Katharine
