I keep insisting I am starting this, and then…Life gets in the way.  So today, after a chance encounter with Chris Love, Manager of the band Life in the Front Seat, I am starting the blog.  Chris and I ran into each other at Frugal’s, started talking tequila - (and vodka - how’d that work out my friend?) - he asked if I had a blog.  I gave him my standard answer:  “I’m supposed to.”

What does that mean?  It means I need to get on with it or stop speaking about it.  So here it is.  Official post #1.  Thank you Chris!

Today’s post will include…
Today’s Top 3 Best-Bang-for-Buck Tequilas or (Get over advertising and choose wisely.)  Included are just a few tequila Dos, Don’ts and Whys.  Something for every one.  Even those of you who do not fancy yourself a tequila drinker.  Read on…

Today’s Top 3 Best-Bang-for-Buck Tequilas
(or Get over advertising and choose wisely.)

Casamigos Reposado  (frequently referred to as the George Clooney Tequila - a partnership product with Rande Gerber.) This tequila is silky, smooth and subtle.  The beautiful warm notes of caramel mixed with hints of cocoa.  It will run you around $49.00

Ocho A light but flavorful tequila with hints of barrel oak, retaining the Agave flavor and a subtle background of honey, lemon and cinnamon.  A buttery silky tequila.
Price point: $65.00

Epspolon Reposado with the forward flavors of Agave and mild oak complimented by a bit of caramel.  The Blanco is a wonderful choice for margaritas and/or Tequila & Tonics.
This beautiful bargain will run you only: $22.00-$25.00

The Tequila Drinkers Dos and Don’ts and Whys…

You may think you are not a tequila drinker.  Many people are under the misperception that all tequilas have a harsh taste or burning heat on the back end.  You may think shooting is the only way to drink tequila. You are not alone.  A few simple practices may change your mind about tequila….

  1. Buy a good Tequila.  The days of Cuervo Gold and even Silver Patron are over my friend. Marketing is misleading.  Just because it is in your face does not mean the product is actually exceptional.

  1. “Training Wheels”  Choose an Orange Slice. Forego the salt, lime and/or lemon.  Theses additions only mask the tequilas flavors and depths.  Sniffing or sucking on an orange slice will enhance your experience of the tequila tasting.

  1. Sip don’t Swig.  The only purpose of downing a shot is to taste as little as possible of the liquor.  It will only get you hammered, and if you are drinking for the sole purpose of getting drunk why spend money on something that should be savored?

  1. Chill don’t Chill.  Drink it neat.  No ice.  Enjoy the drink, smell it.  Let it linger on your tongue.  Do a tasting to see what your palate enjoys.

  1. Proper Glass Proper Company.  Invite others who are interested in learning about tequila to join you. Use a tequila glass, allow it to open up & breathe like a wine.  “Good things come to those who wait.”  Soak in the moment and the flavors.
