I had the distinct pleasure of dining at Ford Fry’s initial Nashville establishment - Superica. I'll admit I'm a little late to the table - as I was on Martha's Vineyard visiting my family in August when it opened. It was worth the wait.
The venue is casual cool, in and out. The outside concrete patio sports music with a combo Nashville, Gulch meets Chicago chic vibe; all the hipness of a rooftop venue on street level. The interior hosts a wide open spread of modern meets rustic accents and seating options.
Comfortable high top chairs in deep turquoise and lots of space. So even when the place is jammed - and I expect most nights it is - you can actually enjoy your meal in comfort.
The bar is where it's at. If you are lucky enough to get A.J. she will make your experience both entertaining and informative. Her expert knowledge of and passion for the property, business mission and product is refreshing!
After ordering margaritas, perusing the menu and asking to review the tequila list, A.J. gave us a gift that was as superior as the restaurant itself. She poured us a special taste of their own small batch reposado tequila - Herradura Superica. She explained that the ownership sent her to Mexico for a few days to help decide what their signature tequila would be. Down to the last detail: aging, spice, notes, scents and flavors. Each barrel produces 240 bottles to share between six locations. A tequila created by staff. What a brilliant concept! And what a delicious experience...
This tequila on the nose exclaims scents of caramel, lemony citrus and spicy clove. It is a beautiful amber color, that beckons "taste me."
On the tongue, it starts out spicy and warm - a tequila drinker's tequila not for the novice but - as it opens up about three sips in - there is a creaminess of light vanilla caramel. The clove hints and black licorice bite move to the front, with citrus claiming the sides and middle of the taster's tongue. It is layered and complex but in a unified way.
This select tequila tantalizes the taste buds with a "Now wait - oh what's that?" way. For this tequila girl, the chance to indulge in a one of a kind tequila made for the restaurant - to compliment their cuisine and vibe - crafted by the people who serve and describe it daily - is a full on game changer!
But wait there's more...
Derrick, a waiter, who delivered to the bar a most decadant and delicious Tres leches cake - added to the entertainment. (Yes the staff is happy and it shows!) Derrick, asked what tequila I thought was the the best of the best. That of course is a conversation for another entry, but I will let you in on a little secret - we have a plan...
It revolves around exceptional tequila, dessert and an app - (of the technological kind) - we will keep you posted, but it's a bit early to reveal our secrets...
What can I say? Superica and Superica Herradura - SUPERADURA!
